How To Tie
Here are some tips on how tie your traditional waistbeads:
What you need:
- Waistbead strand
- Scissors
- A bowl or container
- Mirror
You can choose to wear your waistbeads anywhere between your waist and hips.
1. Place the strand around your body at the desired placement, as if you were putting on a belt.
2. Cross the ends in front of you. There may be extra beads left over. Push these down the end of the strand and knot your waistbead where you’d like it to fit. Make sure you tie 3 or 4 knots on your waist bead for a secure hold.
Remember not to tie your waistbeads too tight --- consider every day movement like sitting and stretching. Your stomach area may also bloat after eating or while on your period. Allow a little room for these changes.
3. Place your bowl or container in front of you for the next step. Cut off any excess thread and beads after tying and allow the beads to fall into the container. Leave at least half an inch of thread from your knot. You don’t want to cut too close and risk the knot coming undone.
Ta-da! Enjoy your new waistbead! No maintenance required, just avoid excessive tugging and be careful when removing clothing bottoms.
